Olumo Rock, Ogun State Olumo Rock is located in the traditional town of Abeokuta. The rock is a massive outcrop of granite rock. Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, derives its name from this rock. The highest point of Olumo Rock is about 137 meters above sea level. The Ogun River flows west of the Olumo Rock. The name “Olumo” means “God Built it”. It is surrounded by a number of caves within which the Egbas took refuge in the time of the Yoruba intercity wars. One of such caves, which is about 6 meters by 7 meters wide, has slab-like stones that must have served as seats for ancient dwellers around the cave.
Ado Waye Rock,Oyo State: This rock has suspended lake which usually attracts millions of tourists to her. It is located a few kilometers from Iseyin, Oyo State.
Zuma Rock, Niger State Zuma Rock is located in Suleja along the Kaduna-Abuja highway. It is a giant rock that was used for defensive purposes by the Gwari natives against invading neighbouring tribes during inter-tribal wars. This rock is believed to possess certain powers, which rendered enemies powerless and provided the natives with a hiding place. It’s most distinguishing feature, a human like face is quite visible with naturally formed engravings resembling human-like eye sockets, nose and mouth on the side of the rock facing the Abuja expressway. Zuma rock represents a beautiful and unique work of nature. The rock is about 107km from Minna and about 39km from Abuja.
Wase Rock, Plateau State Wase rock is a striking dome-shaped inselberg, which jets out of the ground to an incredible height of 450 meters. It is located about 216 kilometres southeast of Jos near Wase town. It is one of the only five breeding places for the White pelican in Africa. Because of this, the government now protects about 321 acres (1.30 km2) of land around the rock as a bird sanctuary and for wildlife development.
Shere Hills, Plateau State The Shere Hills include some of the Plateau’s highest peaks. They are a scenic range of hills to the east of Jos which offer a prime view of the city below. They offer fantastic opportunities to mountain climbers and hill walkers alike. The Hills serve as a camping spot to the Citizenship and Leadership Training center.
Riyom Rock, Plateau State Riyom rock is one of nature's most spectacular rock formations, located 25 kilometers southwest of Jos, near Riyom town.
Kahwang Rock Formation, Plateau State Kahwang rock is a set of beautiful basalt rocks, second only to one of its kind found in Switzerland. Located in Bangai village of Bachi District in Riyom Local Government of the state, the Kahwang rocks have received tourists from different parts of the state, the country at large and on occasions, from outside Nigeria, who visit the site to see for themselves the wonders of nature. This site is however, still awaiting the attention of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation to meet modern standards and to serve as another source of revenue generation to the state.
Idanre Hills, Ondo State Idanre Hill is one of the most awesome and beautiful natural landscapes in Ondo State and Nigeria. Adding to its beauty which fires human curiosity is the fact that the entire people of Idanre lived on these boulders for almost a millennium. As a natural and cultural landscape, Idanre Hills stands out well among all other places that have been listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
